So you are stuck with the pages opening in the side peek in perception. Or at least it feels like it because you can’t figure out how to open your pages in full screen. They stop halfway through, and you’re left staring at both pages.
you’re not alone. Figuring out how to swap it back out is a cinch, once you know where to look. Keep reading to find out how.
What is side peak in perception?
Side Peek is one of three ways that pages open in the Notion database. Instead of filling the screen, Side Peeking opens the page in the side panel, splitting your screen in two. Thus, you can view both the pages simultaneously. This is an excellent solution if you need to view information from a database while working on another page rather than going back and forth.
For example, you manage CRM in Notion. You’re on the phone with a new customer and need to access their notes page and customer database while you speak. That way, you can fill in database properties and write talking points without having to click in and out of pages.
Other options are Full Page, which fills the screen, and Center Peek, a box that uses only the center, like a popup. If you’re expecting one and getting the other, it can be a bit disconcerting – especially if you don’t know how to switch it up.
Assumption provides default views for the databases you create in Assumption. Table, board, timeline, and list usage side peeking, and calendar and gallery usage center. You can either change the default view of the database so that it’s permanently open the way you prefer, or change it temporarily for as long as you have the page open.
How to change your default view in Perception
It is important to note that changing your default view in Notion will only affect the selected database. So, if you want a full page for some and a center preview for others, you can do that.
The only downside is that if you want to change more than one database on the same page, they need to be swapped out one at a time. But, swapping them is just a matter of clicks, and you can do it in two ways.
1. With Side or Center Peek On
Look for the scene mode icon in the upper-left corner of the panel—it will indicate which one you’re currently using.
Click the icon and choose Edit View Defaults at the bottom of the menu. Choose the view you want, and the views will swap.
2. From any view option
If you like the side or center peek, but you’re feeling full page at the moment, you can quickly fill your screen by clicking the diagonal arrows in the top left corner of the panel.
You can also switch between views by clicking the view mode icon in the upper-left corner. From there, instead of choosing Edit View Defaults, choose the option you want from the list.
Once you leave the page and open it again from the database, it will go back to the default view. Keep in mind, this temporary fix doesn’t work when you’re in Full Page Mode.
The choice is yours with default views in Perception
There are many ways to customize your Perception experience, including how you open pages. While Side Peek can be useful for some things, it all comes down to personal preference. Thankfully, changing it is just a matter of a few clicks once you know where to look.

In fact, there are many ways you can archive past tasks and projects without having to switch to another software. In this article, we’ll take you through three options, but first, we’ll discuss why archiving is important.
